Why the Book of Matthew Is My Favorite Gospel

Why the Book of Matthew Is My Favorite Gospel

When people ask me which book of the Bible speaks to me the most, I often find myself turning to the Gospel of Matthew. There’s something about this Gospel that grounds me and inspires me every time I read it.

First, I love how Matthew shows Jesus as the promised Messiah — the fulfillment of so many Old Testament prophecies. It reminds me that God’s plan has always been in motion, and His promises are true. Seeing how the old and new come together in this Gospel deepens my faith and helps me see the bigger picture of God’s story.

I also treasure the Sermon on the Mount. Those chapters are some of the most powerful teachings ever spoken — the Beatitudes, the Lord’s Prayer, and so many words that guide me when I need wisdom for how to live. Whenever I feel lost or need to realign my heart, I go back to Matthew 5–7 and let Jesus’ words reshape my thinking.

One thing I appreciate is how often Matthew talks about the “Kingdom of Heaven.” It’s not just about the future — it’s about how we live right now, here on earth, under God’s loving rule. It reminds me that my faith isn’t just a Sunday thing; it’s a way of life.

I love how practical this Gospel is, too. The parables and clear instructions Jesus gives make me reflect on my daily walk. It’s like Matthew organized it to be a handbook for discipleship, reminding us not just to believe, but to live differently because of what we believe.

I also see Jesus’ compassion so clearly in Matthew — the way He heals, forgives, teaches, and challenges the religious leaders. His authority and kindness side by side inspire me to trust Him more deeply and to try to love like He does.

And, of course, the ending always stirs my heart. Matthew closes with the Great Commission — Jesus’ command to go and make disciples of all nations. Those words remind me that my faith isn’t just for me; I’m called to share it and live it out in a way that draws others to Him.

So that’s why Matthew is my favorite Gospel — it ties my faith to the bigger story, grounds me in Jesus’ words, and challenges me to live boldly for His Kingdom every day.
