“What Does God Really Want from Us?”

“What Does God Really Want from Us?”

Have you ever found yourself asking, What does God really want from me? I know I have—more than once. It’s a question that can come during quiet prayer, in the middle of a stormy season, or when you feel stuck in routine and wondering if you’re truly living out your faith.

Let’s be honest—it’s easy to get caught up in trying to “do all the right things.” Go to church, read your Bible, serve, tithe, avoid sin. These are good and important, but I believe God is after something deeper.

He’s not looking for perfection. He’s looking for our hearts.

Micah 6:8 says it simply and powerfully: “He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?”

Let’s break that down together.

1. Act Justly

God wants us to live with integrity—to stand up for what’s right even when it’s hard. That means treating others fairly, standing with the oppressed, and choosing honesty when no one’s watching. Justice is close to God’s heart.

2. Love Mercy

Loving mercy means choosing compassion over judgment. We live in a world quick to cancel and slow to forgive. But God calls us to be different. Show grace. Be patient. Forgive often. After all, how much mercy has He shown us?

3. Walk Humbly with Your God

This might be the most important piece. God desires a real relationship with you—not just religious routine. Walking humbly means recognizing our need for Him every day. It means surrender, trust, and dependence. Not striving, but abiding.

More Than Religion—It’s Relationship

God isn’t waiting for you to earn His approval. He wants your presence. He wants your heart. He wants to walk with you, through the highs and lows, in quiet moments and loud chaos.

Ask yourself: Am I walking with Him today?

Not did I do enough for Him? but did I draw close to Him?

Let’s keep seeking, not performing. Let’s respond to His love with open hearts and open hands.

He’s not asking for perfection. He’s inviting you into His presence.

Let’s Reflect:

  • What does it mean for you to walk humbly with God today?
  • Where in your life might God be calling you to show more mercy?
  • Is there a place where you’ve been trying to earn God’s love instead of simply receiving it?
