“Seasons of Service”
It’s hard to believe how quickly time moves. Just a few weeks ago, we were stepping into our new role teaching CCD, unsure of what to expect but open to wherever God wanted to lead us. Now, as the seasons begin to shift and the air carries that subtle reminder of change, I find myself reflecting on how God uses each new season, both in nature and in life, to call us to something deeper.
There’s a quiet rhythm to the way God works. He never rushes us, but He never stops moving either. Like the turning of leaves or the soft change in light, He transforms us little by little, often through the simple acts of service that fill our days. Sometimes those acts don’t feel big, helping a neighbor, volunteering, teaching a class, or just listening to someone who needs to talk. But God sees the purpose behind every small moment of faithfulness.
When my wife and I first said “yes” to helping with the 7th and 8th graders preparing for Confirmation, we thought we were doing it for them, to teach, to guide, to help them grow. What we’ve realized is that God was also doing something in us. He’s been reminding us what true service looks like. Showing up, being patient, planting seeds we may never see fully bloom. There’s a quiet beauty in that.
Just as fall reminds us that everything has its season, God reminds us that our calling may look different in each stage of life. There are times for growth, times for pruning, and times for rest, but through it all, His purpose never changes. He calls us to love and to serve, wherever we are, with whatever gifts we have.
Galatians 6:9 says, “Let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” That verse has taken on new meaning for me lately. Service isn’t about immediate results. It’s about faith, trusting that God is using our small acts of love to build something far greater than we can see.
As we move further into this season, I’m praying for continued strength to serve joyfully, to see God’s hand in the everyday moments, and to stay open to where He leads next. The beauty of faith is that every new season offers another opportunity to grow, to give, and to reflect His light a little brighter.
Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the gift of each new season and the lessons You weave through them. Help us to serve with humble hearts, to find joy in the small acts of love, and to trust in Your perfect timing. When we grow weary, remind us that You are working through us in ways we may not see. May our lives reflect Your grace and compassion, and may we always be ready to say “yes” to the call of service wherever You place us.
In Jesus’ name we pray,
Amen.
